As a mother of five myself, I am hugely passionate about many facets of pregnancy and birth, but particularly the importance of “mothering the mother”, a concept at the heart of what it means to be a doula.
A quote that resonates deeply with me is: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” (Ghandi). I believe that how we birth and how we are treated throughout our birthing journey is of fundamental importance. Our children are the future – how we carry them, birth them and raise them shapes our world. Every mother and baby deserves to be loved unconditionally, treated with respect and dignity, and to be supported and nurtured.
We hear so many negative messages about pregnancy and birth and often have minimal or no support in facing the many questions and issues that can arise. We have evolved as a social, tribal species yet we now live in a way that cuts us off from our “tribe”, and with that we have lost so much knowledge and support. Supporting women and enabling them to have a positive, empowering and fulfilling experience through pregnancy, birth and postpartum is my way of being a part of the change I wish to see in the world.
